The Master in Economics and Finance (MEF) is a 9-months graduate programme that allows students to complete their training in economics and finance. Since 2008, MEF is offered entirely in English, and therefore it is accessible to students of all countries. Having already been offered in Italian for 12 years, it has an established track record. The students who graduated in previous editions of this Master have been very successful in the job market or in academic careers, depending on their preferences. The Master is aimed at two groups of students:
• Those seeking graduate training for a professional career in banks, security firms or international and public institutions; • Those planning to pursue a career in research with a doctoral program. Within a year from graduation, about half of our graduates has found a job in banks (such as Unicredit, San Paolo-Banca Intesa, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland), companies (such as ENEL, Finsiel, IBM, Wind), public-sector or international institutions (such as the Bank of Italy, the Italian Treasury, the European Commission, Eurostat), financial and rating companies (Pioneer Investments, Pictet, Link Financial, Moody’s) and consultancies (CRA International, Deloitte Consulting, Ernst & Young). The other half of our graduates went on with a Ph.D.: former students of MEF have graduated or are attending doctoral programs in economics or finance at Princeton, Northwestern, Yale, Boston University, London School of Economics, University College London, Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the universities of Toulouse, Paris, Louvain and Lausanne. The Master's courses aim to: • develop problem-solving skills using state-of-the-art analytical tools; • improve the ability to work effectively in teams, and to present results clearly and effectively; • acquire the background to proceed further in graduate studies, with a preparation roughly equivalent to the first year of a doctoral program.
Courses are taught by faculty with a proven track-record in graduate teaching and research, recruited from Italian and non-Italian universities. The Master is a full-time, intensive course where the number of participants is deliberately low (normally between 15 and 25) to allow instructors to devote individual care to students.
The MEF is directed by Prof. Riccardo Martina, jointly with Tullio Jappelli and Marco Pagano, and is funded by its alumni association (AMEF) and by several private and public sponsors (ARFAEM, Bank of Italy, Banco di Napoli, Cariplo Foundation, Banco di Napoli Foundation, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Terna SpA and MTS S.p.A.)
